Matt Barron

Picture
Matt L. Barron has spent more than 37 years in electoral politics at the federal, state and local levels. He is one of America's most experienced opposition researchers and rural strategists with clients that have included the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Congressmen Steve Kagen (WI), Joe Kennedy (MA), Frank Pallone (NJ), and Tim Walz (MN) as well as Senator Jack Reed (RI).

In addition, Barron has consulted on dozens of state legislative races in MA, NJ and RI and has managed ballot initiatives on national health insurance in Massachusetts and protected cost-of-living adjustments for retirees in San Francisco.

Matt Barron also has a successful track record in PAC fundraising on U.S. House and Senate campaigns. In 1988, he won a Golden Donkey Award for raising more than $437,000 in PAC funds for a congressional election. It was the largest amount raised for any open seat race that election cycle.

A former staffer for U.S. Rep. John W. Olver, three Massachusetts state legislators and the Bay State’s Commissioner of Food & Agriculture, Barron has comprehensive experience in rural policy matters. In 2007, he co-founded RuralVotes, a national non-profit issue advocacy organization. He served as a charter member of President Obama's Agriculture & Rural Policy Committee during his 2007-2008 presidential campaign. Barron serves on the Massachusetts Forest Alliance's Policy Committee and represents the Massachusetts Forest Alliance on the University of Massachusetts Extension Service Board of Public Overseers.
As a serious follower of baseball and football, Matt is a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and New England Patriots. He manages a small woodlot in his spare time.
